About Me

I am a retired entertainer with a career spanning almost 50 years. I made my first stage debut back in 1966 at the age of 17 as a guitar/vocalist with an all female garage rock group called 'Mandy and the Girlfriends.' This group of 5 teenagers were the first of its kind to come out of Yorkshire, maybe even England? We each shared the same dream which was to cut a single and be the first british girl rock group to reach the# 1 slot in the UK charts, just like our American cousins, 'Goldie & the Gingerbreads,' who'd reached # 1 in their US charts with a first single called; "Can't you hear my heart beat." But to be fair, they helped to pave the way for us as well as other future girl vocal instrumental groups. It was difficult for girl rock groups who chose to work in a business that was very much male dominated. However, we all survived and 50 years later all the Girlfriends still meet for the odd reunion gig, where we throw the resident band from the stage, commandeer their equipement and relive half an hour of the 1960s. The keyboard player and myself have recently co-written our first book which charts our experiences while working as this all girl Hull group.

My dad Archie Scudclog often reffered to himself as the unluckiest specimen to walk the earth. Claiming he couldn't catch nits in a room full of lousy heads. He coined the following phrase;
"A rolling sausage gathers no gravy"
